The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is the sole, wholesale distributor of non-medical cannabis for the province. LDB will operate standalone, public retail stores and is the only entity to provide online sales, via its online BC Cannabis Store. The LDB is also one of two branches of government responsible for the beverage alcohol industry in BC.

The LDB’s first BC Cannabis Store, located in Kamloops, opened its doors on October 17, with 20 knowledgeable cannabis consultants on-hand by to serve customers. The store, located within the Columbia Place Shopping Centre, will initially feature more than 85 dried flower strains of cannabis, plus a selection of oils, capsules and pre-rolls approved by Health Canada.

The provincial government’s decision to entrust the LDB with the sale of non-medical cannabis speaks to our strengths and the service we currently provide in managing a safe, secure network of retail liquor stores. Our key priorities will continue to be the protection of young people, ensuring health and safety standards, and keeping the criminal element out of cannabis.

The LDB is proud to have contributed more than $1 billion annually to the province of BC, helping to provide financial support for vital public services such as health care and education.

To serve the interests of our customers and stakeholders, we will:

• Manage the warehousing and distribution of non-medical cannabis
• Deliver quality products and services through our network of BC Cannabis Stores
• Sell non-medical cannabis products to retailers throughout BC
• Promote the safe and responsible use of products

Governance

The LDB operates within the legislative framework established by the provincial and federal governments.  

The LDB has a general manager and CEO who will be responsible for overseeing the wholesale distribution of non-medical cannabis and BC Cannabis Stores, subject to direction from the Attorney General.

The Cannabis Legalization and Regulation Secretariat under the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General coordinates the development of a provincial regulatory framework.

The Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch is responsible for licensing private stores and monitoring the retail sector.
